Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

OttoClipper LLC ("OttoClipper", "we", "our", or "us") makes a browser extension that clips digital coupons to your store loyalty accounts, the website at ottoclipper.com, and the deals site at deals.ottoclipper.com with its Telegram channel. This policy covers all of them. It explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have.

Clipping happens in your own browser, on each store's website, using the store login you already have. We never receive your store login.

OttoClipper is for people in the United States. We do not market it elsewhere and do not design it to meet the privacy laws of other countries. If you use it from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and your information will be handled in the United States as this policy describes.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

Your first store run needs no account: for that run the extension creates an anonymous OttoClipper account, with no email or name attached. If you then create an account, it takes over that anonymous one, so your first run stays in your history. After that you sign in with an email address and password. We store:

• Your email address
• Your first and last name, if you give them (both are optional). We use your name to greet you in our emails and so our support team knows who they are helping. It is never sent to our analytics providers.
• When you created your account and last signed in, and which version of our terms you accepted
• Whether you opted in to our email newsletter
• Your plan (Free or Pro), referral code and referral bonuses
• Whether and when you have had Pro or a free trial, so each person gets one trial

Your password is handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see it.

Clipping activity

To enforce plan limits and show your stats, we record:

• Which stores you clip at, and when
• How many coupons were clipped in each run (totals by store, week and month)
• Whether a run finished or failed, how long it took, and any error message
• Your extension version, operating system and Chrome version
• The last day the extension was running while you were signed in (recorded at most once a day)
• Your clipping streaks and achievement badges

Usage analytics

• Extension: the extension popup sends usage events to PostHog, such as opening the popup, starting or finishing a clip (with the store name, the number of coupons, how long it took, and whether it succeeded, found nothing, or stopped because you were signed out of the store), and viewing stats. Events start under a random ID; after you sign in they are linked to your OttoClipper account ID (not your email).
• Website: ottoclipper.com and deals.ottoclipper.com use Google Analytics, and ottoclipper.com also uses Firebase Analytics, to understand visits and page performance. deals.ottoclipper.com also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies.
• Error reports: ottoclipper.com and the extension send error reports to Sentry. A report includes the error message, technical details of where the error happened, your browser and operating system, the extension version, and an anonymous ID (the random ID of your OttoClipper account or of the extension installation). It does not include your email address or name. Sentry records a replay of a website session only when an error happens, with all text and form inputs masked and images blocked.
• Location: we do not ask your browser for your location. Like any online service, our providers see your IP address when you connect, which can show roughly where you are (for example, your city or region).

Payments and support

• Pro subscriptions are paid through Stripe. Stripe collects your card details and billing address; we keep your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, your plan (monthly or yearly), your subscription status and trial dates, and the country of your billing address (Pro is sold in the United States only).
• New Pro subscriptions are sold through Link, a Stripe service. Link is the merchant of record: it is the seller shown at checkout and on your card statement, it sends your receipts, collects and pays sales tax, and handles payment questions, refunds and disputes. Link collects your name, email, billing address and payment details at checkout under Link’s Privacy Policy. We receive the same subscription details listed above, never your full card number.
• If you report a problem or send feedback, we keep what you write, the store it's about, and your account email so we can reply.
• If you subscribe to our deals newsletter on the website, the email address you enter goes to our newsletter provider, Kit.
• If you have an account and have clipped at least once, we may send a weekly email when new coupons are out at the stores you clip, named from your own clip history. If we send it, it is on unless you turn it off. To see whether it is useful, we record when it is opened (a small image in the email) and when a store link in it is clicked (the link passes through our site on its way to the store), and whether you clip within two days of a click. These records are tied to your account and used only to measure this email.

Deals site

You don’t need an account to use deals.ottoclipper.com, and it doesn’t ask for your name or email address.

• When you click one of our deal links (a link that goes through deals.ottoclipper.com/go/), we record the time, the link, the page you came from and your IP address. We use these records to count clicks on each deal and to spot abuse, and we delete each one after 90 days.
• The site sets a few cookies of its own to remember which offers you have opened and which store pages you have visited, so it doesn’t show you the same offer window again. They are not used for advertising.
• We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful, and Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, to cross-check the numbers. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (_ga, _ga_*).
• Our Telegram deals channel runs on Telegram. We don’t receive anything about who follows or reads it beyond the totals Telegram shows us.

Preventing abuse of free runs, trials and referrals

The first run without an account, the free trial and the referral rewards are each limited to one per person. To enforce that, and to tell one person's accounts apart from a friend's, we keep these values, each stored only as a one-way hash (a scrambled form we can compare but cannot turn back into the original):

• A random ID that the extension creates when it is installed. It identifies the installation, not you, and is removed when you uninstall the extension.
• Your internet connection's network address (IP address), used as a household signal. We use it to limit free runs without an account, and alongside the other signals, never on its own, for referrals.
• A fingerprint of the card you use for Pro, as provided by Stripe (not the card number).
• Your email address in a normalized form.

We only compare these values with each other's; we do not use them for tracking or advertising, and we do not share them.

Sign-up and subscription steps

To understand how people move from the free run to an account and to Pro, we record when your account completes each of these steps: your first run without an account, seeing the prompt to create an account, creating it, starting a trial, the trial turning into a paid subscription, and cancelling. These records are linked to your account ID.

Store logos

Store logos are loaded from outside services rather than shipped with the site. The website loads them from Logo.dev, and falls back to Google’s favicon service when Logo.dev has no logo for a store. The extension popup uses Google’s favicon service only. (Extensions before 1.0.5 also tried Clearbit’s logo service, which has since shut down.) Those services receive the store’s website address and your IP address. They are not told who you are, and no account or clipping data is sent to them. We plan to ship the logos with the site and extension so these requests stop.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Run the extension and your account
• Enforce plan limits (for example, 4 stores a day on the free plan)
• Show your coupon totals, streaks and badges
• Process subscriptions, free trials and referral rewards, including sending the trial reminder before you are charged
• Keep the first run without an account, the free trial and referral rewards to one per person
• Send account emails, the weekly new-coupon email (if we send it) unless you turn it off, and the deals newsletter if you subscribed
• Find and fix problems, and improve the extension
• Count clicks on deals and prevent abuse on the deals site
• Answer support requests

We do not show ads, we do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising across other companies’ sites. See also the notice for California residents below.

4. Service Providers

These companies process data on our behalf to run OttoClipper:

• Google Firebase — sign-in, database and server functions
• Stripe — subscription payments
• PostHog — extension usage analytics
• Google Analytics — website and deals-site analytics
• Logo.dev — store logos on the website
• Google favicon service — store logos in the extension popup, and as the website’s fallback
• Sentry — error reporting
• SendGrid (Twilio) — account emails and the weekly new-coupon email
• Kit — deals newsletter
• Cloudflare — hosting and security for ottoclipper.com and the deals site, and cookieless web analytics for the deals site
• Cloudways — hosting for the deals site, including its click records

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

5. How Long We Keep Data

• Account and clipping records: while your account is open. When you delete your account we delete them as described under “Your Choices and Rights”.
• Deal click records: each is deleted after 90 days.
• Error reports and usage analytics (Sentry, PostHog, Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics): kept for as long as each provider’s own retention setting allows us to, and not longer than we need them to find and fix problems and understand how the service is used.
• Email records (what we sent to you and when): kept for as long as we need them to run and support the service. They may remain after you delete your account.
• One-way hashes that record a used free trial or referral reward: kept after you delete your account, to keep the one-per-person limits.
• Billing records: Stripe keeps payment records as its own rules and tax and accounting law require.
• Backups: backups made by our providers age out on their normal schedule.

6. Chrome Web Store User Data

The use of information received through the Chrome extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use the information the extension handles only to provide and improve the clipping features described in this policy. We do not sell it, we do not use or transfer it for advertising, and we do not use it to decide whether you can borrow money or get credit.

7. Why the Extension Asks to Run on All Websites

Chrome shows that OttoClipper can read and change data on all websites. That is because its small “clip” button appears on the store sites it supports, and Chrome only lets an extension do that by asking for access to the sites you visit. On a site that is not a supported store, the extension only compares the site’s address with its built-in store list on your device and sends nothing. We never read your store login or the contents of other pages for any other purpose. You can limit the extension to specific sites in Chrome’s extension settings.

8. Data Storage and Security

Your account data is stored in Google Firebase, encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Access to it is limited by our database security rules. We use providers in the United States, but some of them (for example, Cloudflare and Google) may process data in other countries in the course of providing their service. No system is completely secure, so we cannot promise that your information will never be accessed without permission.

9. Your Choices and Rights

• Delete your account: sign in at ottoclipper.com/account, choose Delete Account and type DELETE to confirm. This cancels any Pro subscription and deletes your account, clipping stats, referral records, sign-up and subscription steps, the abuse-prevention values above, reports and feedback from our database. We keep only the hashed values that record a used free trial or referral reward, so that deleting an account doesn’t reset those one-per-person limits. Then remove the extension from Chrome. Deleting your account does not remove everything: Stripe keeps its own customer and payment records as its rules and tax law require, records of the emails we sent you may remain in our email records and our email provider’s logs, and copies in our providers’ routine backups age out on their own schedule.
• See, correct or delete your information: email [email protected] from the address on your account. We may need to confirm it is you. We aim to reply within 45 days.
• Newsletter: unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of any newsletter email.
• Weekly new-coupon email: turn it off on your Account page, or with the one-click link at the bottom of any of those emails. Account emails such as receipts are not affected.
• Analytics: to ask us to delete analytics events linked to your account, email us.

10. Cookies and Analytics

Our websites use a small number of cookies and similar tools. ottoclipper.com uses them to keep you signed in and for Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics. deals.ottoclipper.com uses Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*), Cloudflare’s security cookie (cf_clearance), and two cookies of its own: one that briefly holds the offer you just opened so the page can show it, and one that lists the stores whose offers you have opened. Both sites also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookie. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not build advertising profiles. We do not show a cookie banner.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The sites will still work, but you may be signed out of ottoclipper.com. Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control” signal; because we do not sell your information or use it for advertising, we do not treat it differently. The extension keeps your settings, sign-in state and the store list in your browser’s local storage.

Affiliate links on the deals site and in our Telegram channel go to stores and affiliate networks, which may set their own cookies. See “Third-Party Links”.

11. Third-Party Links

Our website and extension link to store websites. Some links on our deals site and in our Telegram channel are affiliate links: when you follow one, the store or affiliate network may set its own cookies to record that the visit came from us. Their own privacy policies apply there. The deals site’s Affiliate Disclosure explains how we earn from these links.

12. Notice for California Residents

This section gives California residents the information California privacy law asks for. We include it as a courtesy, whether or not that law legally covers us.

What we collect. In the last 12 months we collected the following kinds of information, as described in section 2: identifiers (email address, name if you give it, account ID, a random install ID, IP address); account and subscription information; internet and app activity (stores you clip at, counts, errors, extension and browser version, page views); and records of the deals you click. We do not collect your store logins, loyalty card numbers or which individual coupons you clip. We collect it from you, from your browser or the extension, and from our payment processor, and use it for the purposes in section 3.

Who we share it with. We disclose it to the service providers in section 4: Google (Firebase and Google Analytics), Stripe, Sentry, PostHog, our email providers, Cloudflare and Cloudways. When you click an affiliate link, the store or affiliate network may record that the visit came from us, under its own policy. We do not give affiliate networks your account data.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising across other companies’ sites.

Your requests. You can ask us to tell you what we have collected about you, to give you a copy, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. You can also delete your account yourself (see “Your Choices and Rights”). We will not treat you differently for making a request. Someone acting for you can email us, and we may ask for proof of that and of your identity. We aim to answer within 45 days.

13. Children's Privacy

OttoClipper is not intended for children under 13. When you create an account, you confirm that you are 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we will delete it.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the extension or by email about significant changes.
